Please read this letter from Mrs Edwards.

Dear Parents and Carers

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone, please bare this in mind and be patient with us. We are, on a daily basis dealing with multiple enquiries and having to have many conversations to support parents and carers when deciding whether to send their children to school.
We are not naive to how difficult these decisions are, especially if you are needing to work. However, it is vitally important that we all follow the legal guidance.
We know that coming back to school under these new restrictions is different and is going to take some time for us all to adjust to them. We are not trying to be deliberately difficult we are just following the Welsh Government guidance.

I appreciate that at this time of year there can be many illnesses circulating.  Please remember that you do not send your child to school if they are unwell OR if they, anyone in their household or anyone in their extended household bubble have any of the following symptoms:

  • A high temperature (if you think your child has a temperature please check this before leaving home)
  • A new continuous cough (coughing a lot for more than an hour OR 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
  • A loss or change to sense of smell of taste (this means they cannot smell or taste anything or things taste or smell different to normal).

If you, your child or anyone in your house/extended household bubble demonstrate any of these symptoms, you must not send your child to school, you must take advice and follow the guidance given.

If you, someone in your household, or in your extended household bubble develop symptoms during the day and/or decide or are advised to take a test, you must inform school immediately.

If your child or someone in your household (or extended household bubble) is unwell or develops any of the three main symptoms after school, overnight or over the weekend we recommend that you;
  1. do not send your child back to school
  2. phone school at 9 0’clock on the next school day where you will be given advice (this could be a Monday morning if the symptoms start over the weekend)
Please understand that if you arrive at school and potentially shouldn’t be here, we will have to ask you to leave, this could lead to a difficult conversation which we do not want to do in public. However, if you do arrive and you should not be here, you will give us no choice and we will have to deal with it. We are doing our very best to manage this and to avoid causing embarrassment or worry to anyone under these incredibly difficult and unprecedent circumstances.

Thank you everyone for your support

Mrs Edwards

We will monitor these arrangements and we will alter anything that is needed if and when necessary.

Your children have been placed into year groups/class groups and these will be their ‘contact groups’.  Each contact group/class will have designated staff allocated to them.  Every effort has been made so that these groups do not mix.  Staff will attempt to socially distance from the pupils whenever possible. We cannot eliminate the risks, however we will do our very best to reduce them.  This will require your cooperation at all times, in particular you will need to be responsible for your own social distancing and that of your children when dropping them off and picking them up.

You will be greeted by your class teacher at your designated drop off and pick up point.  Please do not attempt to enter the school building.  The teachers will not be available to speak to you during drop off and collection times, to further maintain everyone’s safety and because they will be receiving the children as they arrive.  Any delay in this process will cause a queue to form, so please arrive and leave promptly.

We appreciate for some children that this may be an emotional process, but please be assured that we are all here to help you.  If you do need to speak to a class teacher you will need to email, message them or make an appointment.   Please also make sure that you are not congregating outside the school gates or anywhere on the school site.  There will continue to be a one-way system in operation which will be clearly marked.  Please adhere to this system, it is for everyone’s safety.

Breakfast Club pupils can be dropped off from 8.30am (with no charge initially) with the aim that this time will be moved back to its original opening time as soon as we are able to.  If your child is not attending Breakfast Club, please do not arrive before their allocated start time, where they will then go straight to their class.  We will notify you of when the breakfast time will change.  On entry to breakfast club, pupils will be allocated a table specifically for their year group.

Dinner arrangements will ensure that pupils do not mix with pupils outside their contact/class group, as they will sit on allocated tables.  There will also be staggered sittings and designated times and areas for them to have a play outside.  Initially school dinners will be served using disposable cutlery and trays.  Pupils who bring packed lunches should continue to do so as normal.  We are not expecting you to provide lunch in a carrier bag, please continue to use whatever you would normally use.  The children will be encouraged to be as independent as possible and will be supported if necessary.  Please try not to worry about this, as the pupils will be supported by the staff from their class/contact group if needed.

Please send your child to school each day with a healthy snack and a water bottle.  Please note that snack will not be provided for Foundation Phase pupils in the first few weeks.  PE kits will not be needed for the first two weeks, while the children settle back in.

We have just received our uniform stock.  Your child will be issued with a uniform order form when they attend their first allocated day at school.  This can also be used to order uniform for their siblings.  You will then be given a time slot for you to collect your order.  In the meantime if you wish, your child can return in last year’s uniform or their own clothes.  Once all parents/carers have received their order, we will reestablish the uniform policy.

Yesterday I received communication from AVOW that their after school care would finish at our school.  As a result we have established an emergency provision for this service, which can currently only accommodate a small number of pupils. Priority will be given to working parents/carers who have no other childcare available.  This will start on Monday 7th September and will run until 5pm.  If you require this service, please contact school and ask to speak to myself (Mrs Edwards).  Evidence may be asked for to support your request as there is limited of places available.

The Welsh Government expect all pupils to return to school by Monday 14th September.  Please ensure however that you do not send your child to school if they have any of the following symptoms:

  • A high temperature (if you think your child has a temperature please check this before leaving home)
  • A new continuous cough (coughing a lot for more than an hour OR 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
  • A loss or change to sense of smell of taste (this means they cannot smell or taste anything or things taste or smell different to normal).

If your child demonstrates any of these symptoms please take advice and follow the guidance given.

We understand that for you and your child/children, particularly those who have not been in the school building for many months, that there may be natural anxieties and worries, particularly for any children who may require a little more support.  Our emphasis, on return to school, will be on the safety, care and wellbeing of your child and they will be fully supported by familiar and nurturing staff.

Yours Sincerely,

E.Edwards (Headteacher)

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that you are all well and looking forward to some nice weather during the summer holidays.  As the term draws to a close both online learning and contact with teachers will finish on Friday 17th July and as you will be aware, this is also when Key Worker provision will also finish.  For information on childcare services available during the holidays please contact the Wrexham Family Information Service on fis@wrexham.gov.uk or 01978 292094.

On Monday we received guidance from the Welsh Government regarding the opening of all schools in Wales for all pupils from September, where all pupils are expected to be back in school.  Since then we have been busy making plans for the safe return for all pupils.  Opening and closing times will be slightly staggered to allow for Parents/Carers to socially distance when dropping off and picking up. Please see the grid below for the details.

As you will appreciate, we will make every effort to organise the school setting and classrooms with safety and wellbeing of all in mind.  We cannot eliminate the risks, however we will do our very best to reduce them.  This will require your cooperation at all times and you will need to be responsible for your own social distancing and that of your children when dropping them off and picking them up.  The staggered times and various drop off/pick up points will help to limit the amount of people on the school grounds at any one time.  Please also make sure that you are not congregating outside the school gates.  There will continue be a one way system in operation which will be clearly marked.  The teachers will not be available to speak to you during drop off and collection times, to further maintain everyone’s safety and because they will be receiving the children as they arrive.  Any delay in this process will cause a queue to form, so please arrive and leave promptly.

We are awaiting an update from AVOW about the Little Sunflowers after school care and their future arrangements and we will inform you of this as soon as we receive it.

Initially in September there will be no compulsory expectation to wear school uniform, however if your child has uniform, it would be lovely to see them wearing it.  You will be given an order form for you to place your order when your child returns to school.

In September, please send your child to school each day with a healthy snack and a water bottle.  Please note that snack will not be provided for Foundation Phase pupils in the first few weeks.  PE kits will not be needed for the first two weeks, while the children settle back in.

We are waiting for an update about school dinners, so please watch out on the school website and through your usual contact channels for details about school dinner provision.

We understand that for you and your child/children, particularly those who have not been in the school building for many months, that there may be natural anxieties and worries, particularly for any children who may require a little more support – for example at lunchtimes.  Our emphasis, on return to school, will be on the safety, care and wellbeing of your child and they will be fully supported by familiar and nurturing staff.   Please try not to spend your summer holiday worrying as we are all so excited to see you again and we cannot wait to have you all back in September – please be assured that your child will be very well looked after and they will largely remain within their year groups throughout the day.

Thank you all for your patience, support and well wishes during these last four months, it has been greatly appreciated by us all.  I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to my amazing staff at Rhosymedre, who have worked tirelessly during lockdown so that learning could still take place from a distance and for continuing to keep school open for Key Workers during Easter, half term and bank holidays.  Their dedication and commitment to our school is outstanding.  I am sure that you would like to join with me, in wishing them a well deserved rest, so that they are all fully charged and ready for the next stage in the ‘new normal’ for schools.  We will endeavor to make school as normal as it can be for all, while still following the guidance and we will update you with further detail on our return to school in September.

We would like to wish you all a healthy and safe few weeks until we see you again.

Yours Sincerely,

E. Edwards (Headteacher)

I thought we would think about poems again as this was the last thing we focused on in Literacy before Lockdown, over 100 days ago now. With things changing all of the time at the moment, I thought it was a good time to reflect and a poem is a lovely way of talking about our feeling and realising that others feel this way too. I would like you to write me a poem this week. It might be slightly different for each of you – for some, you could write me a poem abut your feelings about coming back to school. I’ve included a poem called We’re going back to school. I’d like you all to read this and think about it. You could then write your own version of this free verse poem with each stanza starting with “I’m going back to school again…” or some version of this. You can also write a poem about things that you have missed/enjoyed during Lockdown in a similar way and start each stanza with something like “I’m not going out today…” or “I’ve got to keep my distance today…”. I have also included a rainbow template for an acrostic poem. Here you can think about positives and negatives of Lockdown and write a line about them on this template. Remember, each line of an acrostic poem must begin with a word starting with the letter from the word along the edge! I’m really looking forward to reading your poems!

Go Green Week. Last week it was ‘Size of Wales’ go green week. They look for ways to create a greener world for us all! I have set the task for you to design a talking tree poster. Watch the clip that I have attached and then read the information poster. Then get ready and design your own poster, look carefully at the example on the poster to help. I am so looking forward to seeing these! I have included an example that Molly has done for you to see! Happy creating! You could have a go at the quiz linked in also if you wanted too!

Here is a fun way to create a beautiful picture. It can be of anything! I like to do animals or creatures like fairies and monsters. All you need to do is go for a walk with your family and collect some leaves or fallen petals from flowers and let your imagination take over. I’ve added a link for you to watch and some photographs of ones my family made. You can also get lots of inspiration on Google/Pintrest I can’t wait to see what you create with leaves and nature!
